WISDOM

“Get” (literally: “own it”), wisdom and understanding. They go together. If we don’t “own it,” our feelings and circumstances will “own” (control) us! Wisdom is the knowledge of God’s word; understanding is assessing the situation based upon God’s sovereign authority! Where do we start? (Proverbs 9:10) “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

 Proverbs 4:5-9

Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you.

Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you embrace her.  She will place on your head an ornament of grace; A crown of glory she will deliver to you.”

WISDOM

I’ve heard it said “chose your battles.” A pastor once said to me “I’ve learned to choose my own demons.” Both of these statements denote the fact that in spiritual warfare we should never allow the enemy to set the terms of “engagement.” We must be “proactive,” always a step ahead of our adversary; lest satan takes control of the situation, and we find ourselves “reacting,” rather than “regulating” the terms of battle. We must wage war according to God’s wisdom and His word. In so doing the Holy Spirit controls the engagement and as a result, the victory is of the Lord! “Choose your battles,” do not allow the devil to drag you into an engagement according to “his terms.” Here are some references from scripture which I’ve found to be helpful reminders.

“…for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” 2 Chronicles 20:15

“A wise man is strong,Yes, a man of knowledge increases strength; For by wise counsel you will wage your own war, And in a multitude of counselors there is safety.” Proverbs 24:5-6

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:12-13

Proverbs 10:8-9, 12, 17-19

8 The wise in heart will receive commands, But a prating fool will fall.

9 He who walks with integrity walks securely,

But he who perverts his ways will become known.

12 Hatred stirs up strife,

But love covers all sins.

17 He who keeps instruction is in the way of life,

But he who refuses correction goes astray.

18 Whoever hides hatred has lying lips,

And whoever spreads slander is a fool.

19 In the multitude of words sin is not lacking,

But he who restrains his lips is wise.
